New College Sports Shirt

New College Sports Shirt- Indigenous Design – Student Led

We are very excited to announce that the NEW College PDHPE Shirt will be available in the coming weeks and will replace the existing design for all future sales through Cowan and Lewis.

The new shirt was designed by a year 11 student, Isabella D.

DESIGN DESCRIPTION

“My design follows our journey throughout our schooling.

Pathways, twisting and turning, signify changes such as meeting new people, taking on new challenges and changing direction as we learn and grow. These pathways ultimately lead us back to our Ancestors, Elders, parents, and teachers who have protected us, supported us, and guided us, with dedication and wisdom, to achieve our goals.

The lakes and meandering rivers that surround us provide calm and inspire contemplation. They link us to the earth and remind us to respect the Traditional Owners of the land we occupy. Symbolising the ebbs and flows of education, they demonstrate resilience as they flow around obstacles and continue moving onwards.

Meeting places highlight the importance of community, friendships and collaboration and emphasise the need to remain grounded and connected to our faith throughout our educational journey.”

Isabella D

The College will still recognise the existing shirts; therefore, families do not need to purchase new shirts to adhere to the Uniform Guidelines.

SPECIAL REPORT: Vaping & E-Cigarettes

By | News, Wellbeing | No Comments

Over recent months, there has been a growing concern about the impending epidemic affecting young people in relation to the use of e-cigarettes and the trendy pastime of vaping. As this activity grows in popularity, most teenagers are unaware of the associated risks and the potential impact vaping can have on their development and overall health.

Vaping is the act of inhaling a vapour created by an electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette. Although vaping is often marketed as being the “healthy” alternative to smoking, doctors advise that if you do not smoke, then you should not start vaping. Although vaping products are infused with enticing flavours, many contain high levels of nicotine as well as other chemicals and additives, that when inhaled, can cause severe damage to the lungs.

Australia has strict regulations in place for nicotine-containing products and despite it being illegal to use, sell or buy nicotine for use in e-cigarettes, users are purchasing these products through other avenues. A recent Australian study of chemically flavoured liquids used in e-cigarettes which are available here for purchase over the counter, has confirmed concerns about their safety and respiratory health impact. Attempts are being made to regulate vaping and ban the importation of vape products containing nicotine. Unfortunately, manufacturers are developing vaping devices that are cheaper and easier to hide than conventional cigarettes, making it more attractive and cost-effective for impressionable young people.

Open Soccer

By | News, Sport | No Comments

Congratulations to both our open soccer teams for their commendable performance last week! Despite the weather challenges and venue changes, it’s wonderful to hear that the girls had a fantastic day out and enjoyed themselves while giving it their all on the field.

As for the boys, it sounds like they put in an exceptional effort, especially in their close match against St Edward’s in the semifinals. Though they faced a tough loss, they can be proud of their hard work and sportsmanship!

A special shoutout to Riley M and Liam W for their selection in the Possible and Probable games! While they didn’t make it onto the Broken Bay team this time, participating in the trial process is a valuable experience that will undoubtedly contribute to their growth as players.

Keep up the great work, and who knows what opportunities lie ahead in soccer for them!
