Intermediate Girls AFL

By | News, Sport | No Comments

Last week our Intermediate girls (year 9&10) competed in their first AFL Broken Bay Gala Day. What a great day it was, to see our students get in and have a good go at a new sport to all of them.  It’s really something special and great to be a part of.  Our girls played extremely well and together as a team.

The day was filled with Laugher and so much encouragement on and off the field.

Well done to our AFL team for 2023.

Year 11 Exams – Assistant Principal

By | News | No Comments

Dear Year 11,

As you enter your exams next week, I want you to know that we believe in you and your abilities.  You have worked hard to prepare for these exams, and we are confident that you will do your best.

Remember that the results of these exams do not define you but be very clear on this, your effort does define you.  There are many more things about you that will determine the life you have.  They can’t test the person you are, your creativity, your courage, your wisdom, and your potential.  So, give it your all, but know that your worth is not measured by these exams.

I want to wish you the best of luck with your examinations!  You can accomplish your objectives if you keep believing in yourself.  Ignore your nerves and concentrate on all the positive things and your thorough understanding of the subject.  You have all the resources that you need for passing the exams.

I hope that these words of encouragement and support will help you feel confident and motivated as you sit your exams.  Remember that we are behind you, supporting you, no matter what.

Good luck and all the best!

SPECIAL REPORT: R U OK? Day

By | News, Wellbeing | No Comments

Understanding the growing challenges related to mental health among young people is an important consideration. Anxiety, depression and self-harm – are all causes for concern. Factors like academic pressure, social media, family dynamics, and societal expectations, are contributing to these issues. It’s therefore crucial for parents and caregivers to take action early, remove the stigma around discussing mental health, and offer accessible support to address these issues and the wellbeing of their children.

R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention year round by urging people to invest time in personal relationships and empowering informal support networks to identify signs of distress. We urge all families to take part, emphasising the value of genuine human relationships and reminding everyone to ask the important question, “Are you OK?”

Engaging in R U OK? Day activities goes beyond the classroom; it’s a commitment to our students’ overall development. By talking openly about mental health, schools create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and supported. As parents and caregivers, you can contribute by fostering open conversations, normalising feelings and breaking down mental health stigmas. Participating in R U OK? Day promotes compassion and shows our dedication to the wellbeing of the entire school community, reaffirming that together, we can truly make a difference.

This Special Report provides guidance on how to talk to your child about mental health and engage in meaningful discussions. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please consider seeking medical or professional help.

Broken Bay Athletics

By | News, Sport | No Comments

On Monday, 31 students from the College attended Broken Bay Athletics Carnival held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Homebush.  With an early start all our students were in good spirits and ready to take on the track and field events.  The first events for the day were the 1500m, we watched 3 of our students come in 1st place.  This started the day off on a high note. The place getting didn’t stop there, we had a very successful day for a small team between the field and track events.

Our students could be heard from the grandstand cheering every runner on as they came past. It’s lovely to be a part of the atmosphere and watch our student and parents take it all in and support each other.

Congratulations to the following students on their results:

Jack M – 3rd 1500m, Isaiah R – 1st 1500m – 3rd 800m, Toby W – 1st 1500m, Rose D – 1st 1500 – 1st 400m, Emily H – 3rd Shotput – 2nd Javelin – 3rd Discus, Oliver K – 1st Long Jump – 2nd High Jump, Kye Mc – 1st 400m – 2nd high jump – 3rd 1500m, Jayden A – 3rd 200m.

Safeguarding Sunday 2023

By | News | No Comments

The Catholic Church in Australia marks Safeguarding Sunday (formerly Child Protection Sunday) on the second Sunday of September – at the conclusion of National Child Protection Week.  Safeguarding Sunday seeks to acknowledge the immense damage caused by the sexual abuse of children and adults at risk, including by priests, religious and lay people within Catholic contexts. It makes a commitment to practices and protocols that create and maintain safe environments for all people.  It invites people to pray for those harmed by abuse directly and indirectly.

This week was National Child Protection Week.  The theme was ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’: ‘Where we start matters’.

National Child Protection Week is a great time to consider how we all play a part in creating a safe and supportive community for children and young people.  At CSBB we see safeguarding as a shared responsibility and commit to ensuring our schools are safe for students to grow and flourish.
