Thank you so much to all of the students, parents and staff who came along to the ANZAC Day March at the The Doylo. It is so pleasing to see our numbers representing the College continue to grow on this special day. It was also great to see Taylah Gorton, who graduated from St Brigid’s in 2021 and is now a Maritime Personnel Operator Based at HMAS Kuttabul. We thank Carl Dawson from The Doylo sub branch who came out and shared his story with our students at our ANZAC Assembly.

Last week at the Combined High Schools Sailing Championship held at Belmont. Our student Emily H, Isaac A, Lucy L and Samuel D sailed in a total of 8 races over 4 days. The St Brigid’s Catholic College team came 4th. This is a really good achievement for these young sailors and their individual results too are just as amazing.

Emily H sailed a F18 and placed 3rd in division 3, Isaac A sailed a ILCA 6 and placed 3rd in division 2,  Lucy L sailed a ILCA 6 and placed 2nd Laser class and 3rd in division 2, Sportsperson trophy.  Samuel D sailed a Open Skiff and came 5th in the Open Skiff class.

Congratulations Emily, Lucy, Isaac and Samuel and well done Lucy on your Sportsperson Trophy for 2023.  We look forward to seeing more of your sailing achievements throughout the year.

Groovin the Green

By | News | No Comments

We are only one week away now from the inaugural “Groovin the Green” festival to be held at the College.  I have no doubt this concept will continue to grow over the years into something much bigger than what most people can currently envision but it has to start somewhere.  That somewhere is next Friday evening and it needs the whole community to get behind it and show the support that St Brigid’s and St Brendan’s are famous for.

These types of events are about having fun, providing entertainment, promoting both schools, collaborating together, etc, etc.  Having said that, the most important reason for hosting “Groovin the Green” is to build community.  We want to ensure there is a symmetry between the two schools, we want all of our community to feel at home in our schools, we want to breakdown and potential barriers that might be perceived to exist between home and school, we want to open our schools to the wider community and invite them to join with us even if it is just for one evening each year.

We appreciate that most families lead very busy lives but we encourage you to find the time on Friday 31st March to come along to the College with your family and friends and simply enjoy the opportunity to share some quality time together.  There will be a wide range of food trucks, live bands, market stalls, fun games, a magic show, a petting zoo, facepainting, the College café will be in operation and so much more.  It will be a great way to entertain the kids for a couple of hours at minimal expense.

In anticipation of this evening I want to pay a huge thank you to all of our staff who have been busy preparing fun activities for this event.  A special mention must also go to Gemma Murphy (Schools Marketing Officer) and Lyndall Benton (Business Manager), these two ladies have been instrumental in bringing this festival to fruition.

Finally, I look forward to welcoming you to the College next Friday for what is sure to be another important milestone in the life of our school.  For those NRL fans amongst us, I’m sure we can get the Raiders / Panthers game up on a screen somewhere from 6pm and we’ll have you home in front of the telly for the Sea Eagles / Knights game scheduled to kick off at 8pm.
