St Brigid’s Catholic College and the Pathways & Partnerships team proudly held the first Alumni Event on Wednesday, 23rd of November 2022. We were joined by 5 guest speakers, which included 4 past students. Firstly, former Socceroos Captain Paul Wade spoke; he motivated us all with his life experiences, both personal and whilst playing for the Socceroos. His genuine passion for life, learning, and never giving up was inspiring and left us all with a drive to do our best and try anything. Then Lara McCulkin, Natasha Hawkshaw, Bella Hodge and Taylah Gorton formed a panel of Alumni Students, and Principal Adam Murdoch asked the group several questions. I was so impressed by how well the young ladies spoke about their own experiences at St Brigid’s and how much they enjoyed their time here. They were passionate about their place here at St Brigid’s and their amazing teachers that supported them in their journey. They gave our year 10 and Year 11/12 students tips on how best to survive those pivotal years of study whilst looking after their own wellbeing. Well done to the St Brigid’s team for growing such wonderful and inspiring students. We are looking forward to many more Alumni events to celebrate our College, students past and present, parents/family, teachers, and support staff.
On Wednesday the 30 November Mrs Beisler and Mr Barnett took our Senior and Junior League Tag teams to participate in the NRL Roosters Shield League Tag Gala Day.
All the girls played amazingly and had a great day out in the sunshine. Our Senior Team placed 2nd in their Pool and 3rd overall. Our Junior team had some close games, narrowly missing out on finals. All the girls should be commended on their outstanding performance, sportsmanship and pride in representing our College. Well done Girls!
Harmony F (Year 10)
Today, I and three other students competed at the BBSSSA Surf Lifesaving carnival at Terrigal Beach. At the start of the day driving to the beach I was very nervous and scared. As we got to the beach, and I saw the surf it made me even more nervous and scared.
Lining up for my first event which was the swim I was doubting if I would even compete. As I returned to shore and had finished the race, I felt nothing but strength and pride in myself.
” I felt nothing but strength and pride in myself “
Going into the next race which was the board paddle I wasn’t even going to compete because of how nervous I was. Mr Nield with the help of other students and fellow competitors eventually talked me into doing the race. I am so grateful for the support he continuously provides for not just me but everyone else around.
At the end of the day Jack M (Year 10), Brayden H (Year 12), Kye M (Year 7) and I jumped in and competed in the Taplin Relay, which is a swim, a run, a board paddle and another run. Even though we weren’t competing for a place as we were a mixed team, we were determined to do our best. Without the help and support from both Mrs McFadden and Mr Nield, who were so proud of us all, we could not have made today so great.
The team would like to acknowledge and thank Lakes Surf Lifesaving Club for their on-going support and development of our students. We appreciate the boards that were provided for us to paddle.
– Harmony F (Year 10)
It was great to see the students grow in confidence and enter many events throughout the day. Congratulations to our small but big-hearted surf lifesaving team – Team Managers

Year 8 Ambassadors Tackle Climate Change
Last Thursday, selected Year 8 students travelled to Newcastle University to work with our partners High Resolves on a climate change simulation game
This was a fantastic opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the recent Cop27 meeting of world leaders, as students were paired to become ambassadors of a variety of countries around the globe.
Their task was to minimise the economic impact on their own countries, whilst negotiating to secure commitment for change with other countries. This was a valuable lesson in collaboration, communication and the benefits of working for the common good. In addition, students experienced the breadth, diversity and dimension of a large university campus – Callaghan, Newcastle University. Our guides Frank and Catarina did a wonderful job of explaining university life and opportunities.
Not only did the students represent their countries with vigour and determination, but their behaviour was also exemplary. The group received positive comments from Rachel Jackett – High Resolves, dining hall staff and even our Coastaliner coach driver, who said, “I’d gladly take this group anywhere, anytime.”
A vote of thanks to staff member Chelsea Read for organising such a great experience. Thanks also to Sister Josie, Georgia Adams (Wallace), Liz Farrugia and Paul Nield, who accompanied the group on the day.
High Resolves is planning to continue this event in future and expand it for Years 8, 9 and 10. St Brigid’s Catholic College was the first group to be offered this ‘Pathways and Partnerships’ experience.
Last week at the School Sports Australia Under 15’s Touch Football Championship held in Wagga Wagga, where Sienna was named team captain and part of the winning NSW team defeating QLD. At the conclusion on the tournament Sienna was named in the Australian merit team. Sienna this week has also been named in the Under 16’s Australian Tagaroos Oztag team. Well done, Sienna we are all very proud of at St Brigid’s.
Bullying is an ongoing or repeated misuse of power in relationships, with the intention to cause deliberate psychological harm. Bullying behaviours can be verbal, physical or social. It can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious or hidden. Bullying in any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders.
Despite the efforts made to reduce bullying behaviours, the research tells us that one in four students still report being bullied every few weeks. However, not all negative behaviour should be considered bullying. The key difference is that bullying does not stop on its own. It’s important young people learn how to identify behaviours that are rude, behaviours that are mean, and behaviours that are related to bullying.
Often the reasons for bullying can be complex. Some young people do it to get approval from others, some do it to regain control, whilst others may do it because it makes them feel safe. Supporting young people as they work through their emotions will help them unpack the motivation and reason behind the behaviour.
In this edition of SchoolTV, caregivers can better understand why some young people engage in bullying behaviours and what to do to support a child experiencing it. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition, and we always welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

An obstacle based course containing balance beams, logarythms, lilly pads, mud wading, tyre walls, wolf mountain, rope swings, quicksand, and Giant Slide. Testing the strength, endurance and team work of our students. All students conquered the course, with both shoes still attached. Well done everyone.
