St Brigid’s Community Cookbook

By | News | No Comments

This year at St Brigid’s, we are having a whole school focus on developing our literacy and numeracy skills. One of the great things about our school is that we have a strong sense of community that has helped build St Brigid’s into what it is today. We believe that our learning should not just be centred in the classroom, rather, our community should be given the opportunity to impact the learning of our students as well. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child.

We are hoping to develop this sense of community further, and in the process build upon our literacy and numeracy skills, through establishing the inaugural St Brigid’s Community Cookbook. The idea is for parents and relatives to offer cooking recipes that are special to them so that other members of the community can engage their literacy and numeracy skills in order to cook your dishes. But we also hope that it will be more than that. We hope that through this process we are able to offer some more insight into the lives of the families that are engaged with our community. Through food we learn the culture, the history and them memories of the people who offer the meals to us.

If you would be interested in offering a recipe to our community cookbook, could you please click the button below. Please don’t feel that it has to be a fancy or lavish dish, we are looking for the recipes that represent us as a community group.

Share your dish

If, like many of us, you are not comfortable within the kitchen environment, please feel free to forward this email on to someone you know that may be able to contribute. The St Brigid’s community goes well beyond the teachers, students and parents connected to it.

We are looking forward learning from you and about you,

The Cookbook Team

Broken Bay Netball Gala Day

Students participated in the Broken Bay Diocese Netball Gala Day at the Pennant Hills Sport Complex.
The Year 8 Netball team played excellent and only improved each game as the day progressed. Our team finished the day with an impressive win at the playoffs round resulting in commendable 3rd place in the pool.
Mrs Hill is so proud of the team by the way they not only interacted with each other but their interactions with the opponents on the day. The team demonstrated the true qualities of resilience, sportsmanship and team work.
Thank you to Abbie Spillane and Jorja Kowalski for representing our College as our two umpires for the day.

St Nicholas Industry Immersion Program

By | News | No Comments
Last term was an exciting opportunity for our College to connect with St Nicholas Pathways to provide Child Studies students who had a keen interest in child care an opportunity to experience the Early Childhood Industry Immersion program.
As part of the program, students travelled to Maitland once per week for a duration of four weeks to take an active role in helping facilitate the early education centre and concluded each day in various workshops that focused on building creativity, communication, reflective and enterprise skills.
Students had a great time completing the program, complete with a certificate of recognition and we can’t wait for the next group of students to complete the program next year.
Well done to all students who represented the College to an exemplar standard and thank you to Mrs Kuziow for building our industry partnerships within the community.

AFL Sporting Schools Program

By | News | No Comments

On Wednesday 22nd June our Stage 4 students were fortunate enough to have AFL NSW coaches onsite during Inflame to teach them some skills in how to play the game of AFL. From skilful kicking, to speedy running, speccy marks and awesome drills,  our students got a feel as to why AFL is a game that rewards commitment, fitness, and achievement.

This initiative is offered through Sporting Schools Australia. Sporting Schools is a government initiative designed to help schools increase children’s participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. The program has been provided free to our students to help build the confidence and capability to be active for life and is targeted to Year 7 and 8 students in secondary schools. Thank you Sporting Schools and AFL NSW for this opportunity.
