SPECIAL REPORT: Eating Anxiety

By | News, Wellbeing | No Comments

The complexity of eating anxiety stems from a combination of social, psychological, and environmental factors. Young people may develop this anxiety due to social pressures related to eating in front of others, fears about body image, or due to more ingrained issues such as eating disorders. Additionally, cultural norms or dietary restrictions can also play significant roles, as can direct experiences like bullying or teasing related to food choices or eating habits.

Whilst not a formally recognised condition, eating anxiety is a genuine and often overwhelming experience that can significantly hinder a young person’s ability to participate in everyday activities comfortably. This condition can lead to serious nutritional deficiencies and social withdrawal, impacting overall health and academic performance.

Recognising and addressing eating anxiety is crucial for parents, carer, and educators. Through education, policy changes, and community support, we can help young people manage their anxieties and improve their relationship with food, thereby enhancing their overall well-being and social interactions.

This Special Report will help you understand how best to support a child experiencing anxiety around eating.

Year 7 extend their Geography learning through real world applications

By | News | No Comments

Year 7 students were treated to a visit from Urban Designer and company Director of Unique Urban.

It was a great way for students to be introduced to their learning about liveability through real world examples.

Students will now have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and build their work ready skills (like communication, collaboration and critical thinking) as they work in small teams to come up with a recommendation on a water bottle refill station for our College!

In the student relay, Hayden C took out the win for Lakes, followed by Walker, Terry and Kildare.  Walker won 10 artist bonus points.

Please join us in congratulating Isaiah R of Year 11, on his most recent cross-country achievement.

First week back Isaiah headed down to Sydney International Equestrian Centre to complete in the All Schools 2024 Cross Country event.  Making it to this level is a major achievement in itself but Isaiah finished 22nd out of 99 students in his age division with a time of 22:12:09 for a 6km course.

Sailing World Championships

By | News, Sport | No Comments

We’d like to share some incredible news! Emily H of Year 12 and James H (alumni) have certainly proven themselves as top contenders in the F18 Catamaran class with their remarkable achievements at the Youth World Championships in Costa Brava. Despite facing challenging conditions like strong winds and unfortunate incidents such as someone capsizing through their mainsail and collision, they showed great resilience and skill throughout the regatta.

Qualifying for the Gold fleet alone is a significant accomplishment, and to then emerge as Youth World Champions is truly outstanding!! It’s a testament to their dedication, teamwork, and sailing prowess. Additionally, securing 3rd place in the Mixed fleet category further shows their versatility and ability to compete at a high level across different divisions.

Competing against 134 boats from various nations must have been a thrilling and intense experience.

We are all incredibly proud for both Emily and James and congratulate you on this outstanding achievement. May these memories last a lifetime for you and everyone who supported them along the way.

Feel free to check out Emily and James’ race reports over at JamEm Racing
