St Brigid’s Intermediate Basketball Teams Excel at Catholic Schools Broken Bay Gala Day

By | News, Sport | No Comments

This week, St Brigid’s intermediate basketball teams have truly shone, bringing home silver medals from the Catholic Schools Broken Bay gala day. Both our boys’ and girls’ teams achieved impressive results, a testament to their hard work and dedication over the years.

Our boys’ team played with remarkable skill and determination, securing their silver medal in a challenging match against St Paul’s. The division title went to Mater Maria, but our boys’ performance was outstanding throughout the event.

The girls’ team also showed incredible stamina and effort, though they narrowly missed out on the top spot with a loss to Mount Saint Benedict. Despite the defeat, their performance was exceptional, and they gave it their all.

We are immensely proud of both teams for their achievements. Placing second in such a competitive field is a fantastic accomplishment. A big thank you to Mr. Gallen and Mrs. Cannon for their dedicated coaching and preparation leading up to this event.

Congratulations to our Basketballers — your hard work has truly paid off!

Schools Cup Netball

By | News, Sport | No Comments

A huge congratulations to all our netball teams who competed last week over two days and at two different locations!

First, our girls’ teams—Year 7, Year 7 & 8, Year 9, and Year 10—spent the day in Newcastle. Despite challenging weather and playing seven rounds of netball, the rain didn’t dampen their spirits. Each team secured a win or two and faced some incredibly close games that didn’t quite go our way. Overall, the girls had a fantastic time with friends and enjoyed playing the sport they love.

On Friday, our boys’ teams took to the courts in Gosford. With much better weather, they had their best performance yet in boys’ netball. Special congratulations to the Year 10 team for finishing 3rd overall!

Thank you to all our coaches for their time and dedication these teams and our student umpires, we could not have entered these teams without your help. Thank you.

The boys played exceptionally well against the colleges in Broken Bay and secured some impressive wins. It was a fantastic day, with the team showcasing great energy and making the experience truly enjoyable.

A special thanks to Sam for his incredible dedication and effort in training and coaching the boys throughout the day.  To Ella for all her help on the day and support with the team.

Well done boys on a great day!

Under 13 Boys and Under 14 Girls Rugby League

By | News, Sport | No Comments

We’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate the 13’s Boys and 14’s Girls College Rugby League teams that competed in the Catholic Schools Broken Bay Championships at Morry Breen Oval on 7 August 2024.

Our girls’ team, led by Halle B and Bethany F, played extremely well and demonstrated great skill throughout the course of the day. Special mention to Tayla G (who plays well above her weight) who directed the team around the field with great vision and showed tremendous bravery. Given many of the girls are still learning the game, they did well to win 1 out of 3 games.

The boys team won their first 4 games, with too many standouts to mention. It was awesome to see the skill and knowledge of the game that the team displayed in the first few matches. After the early round success, the boys progressed straight to the final against St Edwards. Unfortunately, the boys went into their shells and beat themselves in the final, losing by a couple of tries. Special mention to Andreas T, Isaac B, Max S and Lucas C who did everything they could to lift the team in the final.

Both teams should be commended for how they represented themselves and the College on the day. Thank you to our Year 11 sports coaching students, Mr Philpot, Mr Underwood, Mr Peterson and Alexah K for helping with coaching the teams and helping them further their passion and abilities.

Once again to all the parents that come out to hang out with us all and watch every game, we really do appreciate your presence.

Overall, another great day out with a great group of kids, who do us all proud.

Please join us in congratulating Isaiah R of Year 11, on his most recent cross-country achievement.

First week back Isaiah headed down to Sydney International Equestrian Centre to complete in the All Schools 2024 Cross Country event.  Making it to this level is a major achievement in itself but Isaiah finished 22nd out of 99 students in his age division with a time of 22:12:09 for a 6km course.

Well done, Isiah.
