Under 13 Boys and Under 14 Girls Rugby League

By | News, Sport | No Comments

We’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate the 13’s Boys and 14’s Girls College Rugby League teams that competed in the Catholic Schools Broken Bay Championships at Morry Breen Oval on 7 August 2024.

Our girls’ team, led by Halle B and Bethany F, played extremely well and demonstrated great skill throughout the course of the day. Special mention to Tayla G (who plays well above her weight) who directed the team around the field with great vision and showed tremendous bravery. Given many of the girls are still learning the game, they did well to win 1 out of 3 games.

The boys team won their first 4 games, with too many standouts to mention. It was awesome to see the skill and knowledge of the game that the team displayed in the first few matches. After the early round success, the boys progressed straight to the final against St Edwards. Unfortunately, the boys went into their shells and beat themselves in the final, losing by a couple of tries. Special mention to Andreas T, Isaac B, Max S and Lucas C who did everything they could to lift the team in the final.

Both teams should be commended for how they represented themselves and the College on the day. Thank you to our Year 11 sports coaching students, Mr Philpot, Mr Underwood, Mr Peterson and Alexah K for helping with coaching the teams and helping them further their passion and abilities.

Once again to all the parents that come out to hang out with us all and watch every game, we really do appreciate your presence.

Overall, another great day out with a great group of kids, who do us all proud.

Please join us in congratulating Isaiah R of Year 11, on his most recent cross-country achievement.

First week back Isaiah headed down to Sydney International Equestrian Centre to complete in the All Schools 2024 Cross Country event.  Making it to this level is a major achievement in itself but Isaiah finished 22nd out of 99 students in his age division with a time of 22:12:09 for a 6km course.

Well done, Isiah.

Kye never ceases to amaze us! On Monday morning at the National Swimming Championships in Queensland Kye had an amazing race, bringing home the silver medal for the boys 400m freestyle.

Thank you to Mrs Wark who was up there for her Hockey National championships who made her way to the pool to cheer Kye on and witnessed this outstanding result in the pool.

Once again thanks to Kye’s Mum, Cathy for always keeping us in the loop.

Sailing World Championships

We’d like to share some incredible news! Emily H of Year 12 and James H (alumni) have certainly proven themselves as top contenders in the F18 Catamaran class with their remarkable achievements at the Youth World Championships in Costa Brava. Despite facing challenging conditions like strong winds and unfortunate incidents such as someone capsizing through their mainsail and collision, they showed great resilience and skill throughout the regatta.

Qualifying for the Gold fleet alone is a significant accomplishment, and to then emerge as Youth World Champions is truly outstanding!! It’s a testament to their dedication, teamwork, and sailing prowess. Additionally, securing 3rd place in the Mixed fleet category further shows their versatility and ability to compete at a high level across different divisions.

Competing against 134 boats from various nations must have been a thrilling and intense experience.

We are all incredibly proud for both Emily and James and congratulate you on this outstanding achievement. May these memories last a lifetime for you and everyone who supported them along the way.

Feel free to check out Emily and James’ race reports over at JamEm Racing

Under 14 NRL

What an exhilarating and fulfilling experience we had with the under 14 girls’ rugby league team!

Making it to the semi-finals and placing first in their pool is a fantastic achievement! Mr Peterson’s dedication and effective coaching clearly made a significant impact on the team’s performance and their respect for the sport.

The girls not only demonstrated their skills on the field but also displayed respect and sportsmanship off the field. Events like these not only foster teamwork and sportsmanship but also create lasting memories for everyone involved—students, staff, and parents alike.

Although the girls narrowly missed out on the final, walking away with heads held high and feeling proud is a testament to their hard work and dedication. This experience has prepared them well for future events like the Broken Bay league day in term 3!

Having a supportive team of people, including Mr. Peterson and the student helpers from Sports Coaching, adds to the success and positive atmosphere of such events. Congratulations to the girls on their achievements, and best of luck to them in their future rugby league endeavours!

NSW All Schools Golf

Our golfers Kiara CJ, Ryan C, and Blake C did an outstanding job representing both our College and NSW All Schools at the recent NSW All Schools golf tournament. Competing at renowned venues like Moore Park Golf Course and The Coast Golf Course must have been an exhilarating experience for them.

Their accomplishments reflect their commitment to the sport, and their consistently good sportsmanship throughout the four-day event is truly praiseworthy. Congratulations to all three students for their exceptional performances!

A special mention to Kiara evident. Kudos to our three talented golfers, and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming for securing 12th place overall and to Ryan for his 13th place finish.

Their hard work and dedication to golf are tournaments!

Under 16 Girls Rugby League

Under 16 girls NRL rugby league gala day at Rogers Park Woy Woy was filled with memorable moments despite the challenges with weather (freezing) and a shortened schedule.

Starting the day with a skills session run by the NRL team must have been invigorating for the girls, helping them warm up and focus before their games.

Playing three games and securing a win despite one team forfeiting shows the resilience and skill of our girls team. It’s understandable that we all were disappointed with the early end to the day, but it’s great to see the girls enjoyed playing together and demonstrated teamwork on the field.

The support from Year 11 students from the Sports Coaching class, who assisted with warm-ups, coaching, and organisation, was invaluable. Their involvement highlights the positive impact of mentorship and peer support in sports.

Special recognition goes to Mr. Philpot, the dedicated team coach and college bus driver for the day, whose efforts contributed significantly to the success and smooth operation of the day. His commitment is truly commendable.

Overall, despite the challenges, it was a rewarding day filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the joy of playing a beloved sport. Congratulations to all involved on a successful and memorable gala day!
