Year 12 Retreat
I had the privilege of attending the Year 12 2025 Retreat in Week 3, a truly special experience for both students and staff at St Brigid’s. This retreat offers students the chance to deepen their faith, build character, and form meaningful connections within our community. Having participated in two of these retreats, I can wholeheartedly attest to the lasting impact they have on everyone involved.
Under Mr. Landrigan’s guidance, students were encouraged to reflect on their individual strengths and to embrace unity within the group. Our Year 12 students took this opportunity to heart—receiving their new jackets, connecting with each other on a deeper level, and sharing supportive and positive reflections. It was amazing to witness the bonds that developed over these three days, as they transformed into a close-knit cohort, ready to support one another through their final year of school.
I’m always grateful to be a part of these experiences, and I’m sure some of these moments have already been shared with their families. I would also like to extend my thanks to Mr. Landrigan and the dedicated staff who helped make this retreat such a success. Their hard work makes these experiences possible for our students, and I am appreciative of all they do.
Learning from the HSC Marking Process
This week, I had the advantage of engaging once again in the PDHPE HSC marking process. I’m pleased that several of our staff members have also been involved in HSC marking in 2024. In my view, this experience is one of the best professional learning opportunities we have as teachers. The insights gained from marking not only deepen our understanding of exam standards but also equip us with valuable, practical strategies that we can share with students.
Working alongside experienced teachers from various schools allows us to learn different perspectives and approaches, which further enriches our teaching practice. The marking process consistently highlights to me the hard work and dedication shown by students across the state, giving us a clear picture of the high standards our students strive to meet.
I encourage our students to make the most of their teacher’s knowledge by learning from their tips and insights gained through HSC marking. These “insider” strategies can provide a further advantage in their studies, helping them approach exams with confidence and clarity.
Student assessment
As we approach the end of the assessment period for Years 7–10, it’s crucial for students to make the most of class time, ask questions, seek advice, and work toward their personal best. For our Year 12 students entering their assessment period, effective planning and time management will be essential. Using Checkpoints to seek advice, ask questions, and submit work for feedback can make a big difference. Teachers are always eager to help, but timely communication and planning allow us to provide the best support possible. Students are encouraged to take these opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and achieve the results they’re capable of. This week’s Ignite newsletter will include the Year 12 assessment calendar for Term 4.
Term 4 adventures for 7, 8 and 10
In the coming weeks, our Year 7, 8, and 10 students will also have the chance to embark on camp adventures that offer new and memorable experiences. These camps are designed to challenge students, encourage them to step out of their comfort zones, build lasting relationships, and explore activities they may not have tried before. These camps often create memorable moments that students talk about long beyond the school gate. None of this would be possible without the incredible support and dedication of our staff who plan these camps and accompany students on these journeys. I wish all the students and teachers a fantastic experience.
Congratulations to the cohort of 2024!
I would like to extend one last congratulations to the Class of 2024 for the outstanding effort and dedication they displayed throughout their HSC exams. They approached this period with both focus and commitment, and their strong performance is a true testament to their hard work, the support of their families, and the dedication of their teachers.
A special thank you goes to our Presiding Officer, Paul Nield, for his professionalism, care, and steady guidance during the exam period. We are appreciative of the support and commitment he brings, helping to ensure a smooth and successful exam period.
As we move into the second half of the term, there are still plenty of busy weeks ahead. I encourage all students to stay focused, come to school each day ready to learn, and take advantage of every opportunity that arises. Let’s keep up the momentum and finish the term strong, making the most of all that this term has to offer!
